Chiropractic Technique: Cox Flexion/Distraction and Thompson Technique
Cox Flexion/Distraction is a specific chiropractic technique that uses mechanical and hands-on manipulation and adjustment utilizing a particular table where the spine is tractioned and flexed forward. This technique is primarily used to treat cervical and lumbar disc herniations, non-disc spinal disorders, and to increase the mobility of spinal joints.
A Combination of the Diversified Technique That Uses a Table
Thompson Technique is a particular chiropractic method and is a variation of the Diversified technique that uses a specific table with several parts called drop pieces. These parts can be cocked up a portion of an inch, so when the thrust is given, the table will drop this portion of an inch. The drop aims to distract the joint during the manipulation or adjustment. The drop pieces assist the thrust while minimizing the force needed for the adjustment. Joint cavitation may or may not happen.
